Service Learning Club

The Service Learning After School Club has been working very hard this fall.  First they participated in a walk-a-thon to raise funds for a quilt project.  They spent the next few sessions creating beautiful fleece tie quilts. Mrs. Casey brought the quilts to Dana Farber Hospital with enough extra sponsorship money to pay for two pizza parties for the families at the hospital.  Way to go Service Learners! You should feel proud of yourselves.

Celebrating the Holiday Season
It was a busy, festive week at Francis Wyman School!
Students spent the week learning about different cultural traditions and celebrations while celebrating the arrival of winter and the holidays with both family and friends.

The 4th and 5th grade students performed their annual holiday concert featuring the chorus, band and string instruments.  The musical talent of our FW teachers and their students never cease to amaze all of us!

Dressed in their pajamas, first grade students and teachers enjoyed their adventures on the The Polar Express.  After listening to the story read aloud by Mrs. Jefferson, the students were able to enjoy a cookie & some hot chocolate provided by the friendly cafeteria "elves".

Our Kindergarten classes have recently spent time reading different versions of The Nutcracker, creating the characters, writing about their adventures, and attending a live performance at the theatre.  Following this study, the students performed their own version of The Nutcracker with each class performing a different musical selection of the ballet.  Always a crowd pleaser here at FW!

From all of us at Francis Wyman, we wish you and your families many blessings, good health, and happiness for the holidays and throughout 2017.  Happy Holidays!

We will continue the Francis Wyman Positive Behavior Incentive Program after the winter vacation! Students will have the opportunity to earn SOAR coupons by showing Outstanding Effort.  Coupons will be gathered in the office and during morning announcements, a few coupons will be randomly drawn so students get a chance to spin the "Wheel of Wyman".  Slowly, our mystery puzzle will be determined, revealing a school-wide prize.  Exciting times at FWS!

Some high demand items for Cradles to Crayons are winter items such as coats, boots, hats, gloves, and socks. Their drive will be running from Tuesday, January 3rd through the end of the month. Bridges Program
We are very fortunate to have some active seniors in Burlington! Once a week, a group of retirees visit our fourth grade to build relationships, discuss history, and bridge the gap between generations. This week, each senior and student shared an artifact that was important to them.  Students are always very eager for their senior friends to visit each week.
