Students in Mrs. Guanci's Kindergarten class practice important social skills including positive communication, sharing, and problem-solving during their morning play time.

Writing consultant, Kelly Boswell, shares her expertise with Grade 2 and 3 teachers today!

Teachers in grades 2 and 3 observed a writing lesson modeled by Kelly Boswell and then helped support students as they tried out this new strategy. Both students and teachers benefit from Ms. Boswell's expertise with the Non-Fiction writing program implemented across all grade levels at Francis Wyman.

Francis Wyman received a fresh, new layer of snow this week.  Thank you to our DPW, Recreation Department and FW custodial staff who worked hard to clear the roadways, driveways, and sidewalks of our school in a timely manner.  In addition, I would like to add a HUGE thanks to our parents for your understanding and patience as we all continue to endure this cold, snowy season.  Please continue to give yourself a couple extra minutes during drop off and pick up times, in addition to a couple of extra deep breaths, as we are all doing our best to ensure student safety while appreciating the "beauty" of this long winter season.

Highlights of the week:

Mr. Doiron pitches in during ELA in Mrs. Lynch's class...
Mrs. Ski's first-grade readers are eager to read their space stories to Mrs. McDonald!

Grade 2 students eagerly explored liquid properties and collected their data displaying their findings in their science journals. Students worked in teams to discuss their observations, apply scientific vocabulary, and record their findings on their data sheets.

Grade 2 students in Ms. Screnci's class, with support from Ms. Sacco, our district's ELA Coach, worked on a writing lesson demonstrating how they could utilize two-column notes before writing a compare/contrast essay.

All of our schools in Burlington are committed to student success.  We agree that each student's consistent attendance at school is essential to helping them achieve their highest potential.  Please review the enclosed letter from District Attorney Marian Ryan regarding Truancy and School Attendance guidelines in Massachusetts.

Weekly Bulletin - December 22, 2017

Happy New Year!
All of us at Francis Wyman wish you and your families a peaceful, prosperous 2018!

A quick look back at our year end activities . . .

Grade 2 and 3 Learn Engineering Skills

Before the winter break, all 2nd and 3rd grade science classes tested their teamwork and engineering skills.  Here, Ms. Screnci's second grade classroom constructed bridges with some basic materials. They used their creativity and ingenuity to make suspension bridges. Mrs. Browne's third grade class worked hard in their teams to build levitating "railroad" cars that would run on a track. We have engineers in the making!

Kindergarten Classes Sparkle in the Nutcracker

All kindergarten classes participated in their annual representation of the Nutcracker ballet.  Thank you to all our guests that joined us for this memorable performance!

First Grade Students Celebrated Pajama Day
 with the Polar Express

Thank you PTO!
The office staff would like to express our appreciation to the PTO and all our families that extended holiday greetings, warm wishes, and tasty treats (including these tasty chocolate covered strawberries) throughout the holiday season!  We are grateful for our thoughtful FW community!
