We hope you are all enjoying your summer vacation already!  The final 2016-2017 issue of the Falcon Times is ready for your review.  Click here to check it out.

We all enjoyed a school-wide SOAR Award on Wednesday... Hawaiian Beach Day
SOAR Coupons were earned and the mystery puzzle was revealed! Students had the opportunity to participate in a school spirit day and were treated to ice cream during their lunch break!

Burlington Education Foundation STAR Awards presented to Gail Sheehan, retiring after 23 years of service to the Burlington Public Schools!

Ms. Colleen Small, Second Grade teacher...

And Mr. Todd Stead and Karen McIntyre, Fourth Grade teachers...
Congratulations to all our teachers and staff here at Francis Wyman.  We are lucky to have such a dynamic, dedicated group of professionals working with our students.  I hope you all enjoy a relaxing and rewarding summer vacation - it is well deserved!

Final SOAR Assembly
Perfect Attendance award winners!  0 absences, 0 tardies, 0 dismissals - AMAZING!

Mr. Levin presented Matthew & Shreya with the newly established Levin Library Award for their passion for reading and love of literature.  Congratulations to these 5th graders & thanks to Mr. Levin for joining us to present this award!

Students were nominated by staff members in all grade levels and across all subject areas to receive awards for demonstrating Self-Control, Outstanding Effort, Acts of Kindness and Respect.  Congratulations to all our award winners and a shout out to all our Francis Wyman students that work hard each and every day to demonstrate our school's values!  You make our school an amazing place to work and learn!

Our last hurrah!  Francis Wyman staff participated in the end of the year tricycle relay race.  Representing the teams S, O, A, and R teachers quickly pedaled or pushed their trikes as cheering students encouraged them from around the gym.  Bragging rights were at stake and the competition was fierce, but emerging victorious was the S team (who says shorter legs can't be an advantage)!  It was a fun way to end a great year and usher in the summer vacation.

Thank you Cub Scout Pack 105
A great big "thank you" to Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Davidson, whose Cub Scout Pack took the time last week to present new American flags to each of our elementary schools here in Burlington.  This dedicated group of young men found a way to give back to their community and their efforts are greatly appreciated!

I hope you all enjoy your summer and you find time to relax and spend time together doing the things you love to do.  See you in September!

Looking for a Few Garden Volunteers!

Francis Wyman Community Garden

This spring, our students planted a vegetable and flower garden next to the Burlington Community Garden.  It's going to be beautiful and productive with a little help from you! We are looking for Francis Wyman families to take responsibility of the garden for a one week time slot over summer vacation.  We will have simple instructions for you, but basically the garden will need some watering and weeding.  Families will be able to earn documented service hours. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Conley at 781-273-7613 or conley@bpsk12.org
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Spring Strings!
Congratulations to our 3rd grade students who performed their final violin concert this week for families and friends alike.  They were also joined by our 4th and 5th grade students in the end for a demonstration of what's to come in the years ahead if they stick with their violin lessons!  It is so impressive to watch such an amazing display of talent develop in such a short period of time.  Thank you to Mrs. Canzano for sharing your time and talent with these students!

Friendship Club wraps up their year long
 program at Kings Bowling...

A great way to celebrate the end of a successful endeavor.  Thank you to Mrs. Casey and Mr. Stead for coordinating this cross-age friendship group and celebrating their efforts with a special get together at Kings!

A Picture Perfect Day in Boston!

It was a wonderful day to be exploring Boston, strolling in the Public Gardens and taking a leisurely ride on the swan boats with the Kindergarten classes on Wednesday this week.  We all  strolled through Louisburg Square, explored the statues around the State House, and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the Boston Common.  Thanks for the invite from the K students - I enjoyed every minute of our special day!

A few reminders:
1) Our parking lot and outdoor lighting will be completely redone during this summer beginning on June 28th.  No summer programs will be held at Francis Wyman due to this construction, and parking will not be available at this site until after mid-August.
2) We are looking for a few families to help keep an eye on our school garden during the summer months.  Our garden is planted next to the community garden in the back of FW.  If you are interested in volunteering for 1 week to help water & weed as needed while earning community service hours, please reach out to Julie to sign up for a specific week.  Thanks for helping to keep our garden growing!

Grade 5  Going to Camp Bournedale in the fall...
Next year's Francis Wyman fifth grade will be going to the annual Camp Bournedale overnight field trip on NOVEMBER 6-7.  All information and meetings for the trip will be given in September.  Please be on the lookout in the fall for Bournedale information, permission slips, chaperone sign-ups, etc.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Lynch (klynch@bpsk12.org) or visit the Bournedale blog to browse (http://burlington-bournedale.blogspot.com/)

Field Day Festivities

Thank you Mr. Rebelo and Mrs. Nicholas for organizing a VERY successful Field Day once again!  Hours of preparation are needed to ensure a fun and smoothly run all day event, and we are grateful for their efforts.  We are also fortunate the weather was perfect today!
Check out our activities...

A great big "SHOUT OUT" to all our 5th grade PE helpers that came out in the morning to assist the younger grades at each station, as well as all the parents who volunteered to help make our FW Field Day a great success.  I am also in awe of all the teacher volunteers who willingly take a turn in the Dunk Tank - thanks to all who participated today, it's always a favorite stop for the students!  Finally, thank you to the PTO for supplying popsicles, cutting a ridiculous amount of watermelon, and providing FW Falcon water bottles for each student to have during the day.  Such a shining example of a school wide, community effort!
With much appreciation . . . Mrs. McDonald

Pictures from Family Math Night 2017...

We are so fortunate here at Francis Wyman to have such an invested team of teachers and parents that support all of our academic endeavors.  It was great to see so many students and parents participate in our evening of math activities, demonstrating their ability to think logically, play cooperatively, and solve challenging math problems.  A special "thanks" to Mr. Pera, Mrs. Fortunato, Mrs. D'Amico,  Mrs. Lynch, Mrs. Marsh, Mrs. Smith, and Ms. Torres for coordinating this successful, engaging math event!
