Welcome Mrs. Ardizzoni & Mrs. Carney

Two additional new members of our Francis Wyman team include Michelle Ardizzoni, IT Specialist, and Megan Carney, school librarian.  These two ladies make a dynamic team working together to support teachers and students alike with integrating technology, exploring research tools, and sharing high quality literature across all grade levels and throughout all areas of the curriculum.  We are so fortunate to have them here to share their enthusiasm and love of learning!  Welcome aboard.

Camp Bournedale 2016
Grade 5 students enjoyed their adventure at Camp Bournedale last week. Many smiling faces were found where students helped on a lobster boat, completed an adventure course, and disected a shark.  Family style meals were served and the students enjoyed bunking in cabins together.  This tradition will surely be their favorite FW memory!

Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive Community Outreach -- Please help reach our goal!

During the first 2 weeks of October, Francis Wyman Elementary School is participating in a community outreach program called the Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive.

This drive is sponsored by PSI (Pet Sitters International) and is an international effort to collect pet food for local shelters throughout the month of October.

A Better Way Pet Sitting Service will be hosting the Hungry Bowl® Pet Food Drive at Francis Wyman from October 3 through October 14. All pet food collected will be donated at the end of the month to Northeast Animal Shelter and MSPCA Nevins Farm. Thank you to Wendi Dellemonico for helping coordinate this effort.

If you would like to participate, please have your child bring into school any dog or cat food that you would like to donate and place it in the pet collection barrel located in the lobby of Francis Wyman. (See photo below) Any type of dry or canned food is acceptable.

Shelters are experiencing greater need than ever before—but we feel confident that the students at Francis Wyman can help make a huge difference in the lives of shelter pets while they await their "Forever Homes".

Thank you for consideration of this effort.  We appreciate any donation you can provide!
 Mrs. Dellemonico and her toy poodle Toby greeted the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes of FW.  They learned about his journey and how he became a therapy dog before getting a chance to meet him up close and personal.  Toby has many new friends after his Francis Wyman visit!

Mr. Larkin teaches at FW!

Mr. Larkin takes on
a teacher role at Francis Wyman!

Mr. Larkin was up to the challenge of helping students create a character trait bubble map while team teaching with Mrs. Sunderland in her 4th grade ELA class.  Students created their charts using Google forms on their iPads and then shared their ideas as a class before returning to their small groups to complete a vocabulary task.

Thanks for your help today Mr. Larkin!

Even afternoon bus duty was on Mr. Larkin's schedule and all students on Bus #15 arrived home safely under his supervision!

Welcoming some new faces to our Francis Wyman family!

Mrs. Carol Nicholas has joined FW as our new physical education teacher replacing Mr. Magee, whose family relocated at the end of last school year.  Mrs. Nicholas is starting her 12th year of teaching, formerly working as a Physical Education teacher and the Adaptive PE teacher at other schools here in Burlington.  Her passion for PE and commitment to each student's overall wellness is evident in her daily interactions with students of all grade levels.  We are excited to have her join our FW team!
Ms. Lauren Vigneau is a new addition to our art department at Francis Wyman.  She is currently teaching all 1st grade students, replacing Mrs. Finkle who retired at the end of last year.  Ms. Vigneau has a degree in Art with a specialty in graphic design.  These skills have already served our school well as Ms. Vigneau has helped us design our new graphic posters displaying our SOAR motto and school wide expectations.  She is creative and committed to helping all of her students discover their inner artist!
1st grade students listen attentively as Ms. Vigneau explains their project of the day using warm and cool colors.

Weekly Bulletin September 16, 2016

Weekly Bulletin

We were glad to welcome our new Kindergarten class this week! They are the Class of 2029!  It was a seamless transition for students and teachers, and all have settled into a structured routine thanks to our dedicated & enthusiastic Kindergarten teaching team.

It was wonderful to see so many parents at FWS for Back to School Night.  We reverted back to having classroom visits only with the entire school in one night.  Please let us know if you liked this style or have any concerns about how the evening was run.

If you are in need of attending a Confidentiality Meeting, one has been scheduled for September 20th at 8:00am in the Main Office. Please attend if you would like to volunteer at FWS. Confidentiality meetings and CORI reports must be completed before you are scheduled to volunteer. Thank you.

Our CARES motto has changed!  Since adopting the Falcon as our mascot last year, a committee of staff members developed a new motto to align with this called "FW Falcons SOAR".  Ask your children about our new behavior acronym:
                             S = Self Control
                             O = Outstanding Effort
                             A = Acts of Kindness
                             R = Respect
We are all now SOARing into the 2016/2017 school year!
