A Letter from Mrs. McDonald

Dear Francis Wyman Families:

It is with great enthusiasm that I take on the role of Principal at Francis Wyman Elementary School on a permanent basis.  I look forward to building upon the relationships that I have established over the past two years with students, staff, and families to ensure the best learning experience possible for every child.  The staff at Francis Wyman is talented and dedicated, and I am proud to have the opportunity to continue the many successes previously accomplished here and follow in the footsteps of such dedicated leaders as Susan Astone.

I would like to take a moment to remind you of some important changes taking place this year.  The daily schedule at Francis Wyman has shifted to an earlier time with the school day scheduled from 8:10 AM - 2:15 PM.  Drop off time in the morning will begin no earlier than 7:55 AM and student pick-up by parents and buses will begin at 2:25 PM.  It is critical for student success that they arrive on time in the morning to allow them to be fully present and prepared for learning.  If arriving after the 8:10 morning bell, please be sure to accompany your child into the building and sign them in at the front office.  A new attendance policy has been issued by the Department of Education and further details will be highlighted in this years student handbook which will be available on-line.

Also, Andrea Hayes will be continuing on as the Special Education Team Chairperson for Francis Wyman School.  We are fortunate to benefit from her many years of experience as a special education teacher and Team Chairperson here in Burlington.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s IEP or special education programming, please contact her at 781-270-8149.

If at any time you have questions regarding Francis Wyman School policies and procedures or your child’s school progress please do not hesitate to contact us at 781-270-1701.

I look forward to an exciting, successful school year.

Sincerely,

Nicole McDonald
Principal

Ending the school year "Happy" and ready to "Roar"

FWS CARES Assembly
June 2014

The students celebrated the school year and ended knowing that this is a school that CARES! There was singing, dancing and cheering!

The Student Council led the school in the CARES cheer and presented a video of various examples of how students at FWS show Compassion, Accomplishment, Respect, Enthusiasm, and Self -Reliance.

To culminate the year, the Student Council challenged the school to create a video that exemplified the CARES motto. Mrs. O'Neill's class was the winner of levels 3-5 and Mrs. Duncan's class was the winner for levels K-2.

FWS students exceeded the goal set for the number of Accelerated Reader books read. Last year the students read 4,000 books but this year they read 5,000 BOOKS! FWS is a school that reads! Two students from each grade were given awards for reading the most books in their grade level. One student was recognized for  excellent progress in reading.

Students who participated in the Reflex Math program received awards for working in the program over 100 days this year. The students who met this goal did this by working on the program at school AND at home. Their commitment to practicing math is commendable.

Another fun video was a collage of various events and learning experiences that occurred throughout the year. Each class submitted photos to the Technology Department who created a fun video featuring the songs "Happy" and "Roar" . All the students enjoyed singing along while viewing the photos.

To end the celebration, the Student Council led the students in a giant "wave" as they said "good-by" to school and "hello" to summer. Students then participated in a school-wide "Move - It" dance led by the music teachers.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate our fabulous students and an impressive year of accomplishments!
