Camp Bournedale
The 5th grade students from Francis Wyman and Pine Glen traveled to Plymouth for an overnight adventure at Camp Bournedale.  The students had the opportunity to study ocean ecology, marine biology, and participate in Project Adventure to put their teamwork skills to the test!  The weather was perfect and a great time was had by all who participated.  Thank-you to the 5th grade staff and all the parents that volunteered to chaperone this highly anticipated adventure.

BRIDGES:  GROWING OLDER, GROWING TOGETHER is seeking grandparents and adults age 55+ for their intergenerational program.   There is an urgent need for volunteers for the Francis Wyman session beginning on Thursday, October 15th.  Volunteers commit to one hour per week, from 1 to 2 p.m.,  for six consecutive weeks.  Working in pairs they support teacher instruction by engaging a small group of fourth grade students in thoughtful conversations.  The lessons promote mutual understanding, respect, friendship and family ties.  Volunteers do not need to be Burlington residents.   Contact Kathy Lawless by phone at 781-273-4109 or bridgesvolunteercoordinator@gmail.com to register.

Burlington's First Annual Bowl-a-thon at Kings Burlington on Sunday morning 9am - 12pmOctober 4th.  $15 per person (for ages 3+) and bring the littler ones (0-2) at no extra charge.  This is an ALL AGES family event.  "GUTTER BUMPERS" are available so even the young ones will have a blast bowling!   There will be plenty of carnival style activities for everyone to enjoy before or after their turn on the lanes at no extra charge.

The $15 for admission gets you 2 strings of bowling, shoe rental, food, beverages, carnival activities, and entry into the door prize (Kings Gift Certificate).

We are also selling tickets for a Grand Raffle ($10 for one ticket and $20 for three tickets).  [1st Prize - iRobot Roomba Vacuum : 2nd Prize - Kings Bowling Party for 10 people : 3rd Prize - Cases-Cases Inc. BackYard Campfire Basket]
You do not need to attend the bowl-a-thon to win the Grand Raffle, so it is a great way to support the cause if you cannot make it on the 4th.

To purchase admission tickets, grand raffle tickets or for more information, visit our website at www.burlingtonbowlathon.com

All proceeds benefit the Adopt-a-Class 2027 Program

RtI Guide for Parents

Parent Guide to RTI/MTSS by Patrick Larkin

Today was officially the 2nd annual "Talk Like a Pirate" day here at Francis Wyman.  Captain McDonald greeted the students off the bus with some pirate lingo and our pirate band of teachers encouraged our crew of students to join in the fun throughout the day. They even had a chance to "walk the plank" while passing to their specialist classes.  Well "shiver me timbers" it was a great day for our FW pirates!

Fourth Graders get down to the serious business of writing.  In every classroom students were busy brainstorming, drafting, editing, and finalizing their narrative essays.  I was excited to listen to many creative ideas and descriptive adventures throughout the week.

Cafeteria Helpers

Students Arrive for a New School Year at Francis Wyman!
2015/2016

Students arrived off the buses sporting their best outfits and big smiles!  The staff was eager to greet the students for the first day and we could all feel the excitement in the air.  Students were excited to share their summer adventures and happy to be back at school with good friends.  We are all looking forward to another successful year at Francis Wyman Elementary School.

All students attended a back to school CARES assembly with Mrs. McDonald.  Here, 5th grade students held up the CARES letters and the key words that helped us remember what our schoolwide expectations are here at FW.  I am always so impressed by our students' level of compassion, respect, and enthusiasm they demonstrate throughout the school on a daily basis.
I am so proud to be a part of such a caring school community!
