Reminder to Parents Regarding Morning Drop-off
From the
student handbook-
A.M. Drop-Off (8:20 –
8:30am)
- will occur in the back of the building. All cars entering school grounds to
drop off students will go to the back of the building around the parking lot
and pull along the sidewalk parallel to the gym and Reading Garden. The
students will disembark along the sidewalk and enter the school through the
doors at the end of the Reading Garden walkway and gym doors. Please pull cars all the way up to the
corner. For safety, obey teachers
directing you and your child. The cars
will then exit the parking lot the way
they entered into the parking lot, continue down to the second right between
the islands in front of the building and exit left to Terrace Hall Ave.
After
8:30am, once duty teachers go inside, parents must park and walk their children
to the main office. The back entrance may be used.

Massachusetts Parent Involvement Survey 2012-2013
We need your help to make Massachusetts
2012-2013 Parent Involvement Survey a record success! Each year the Mass Department of Elementary
and Secondary Education (MADESE) surveys parents to determine how well your
child’s school is partnering with you and promoting your involvement in your
child’s education. All states must
collect these data as part of their State Performance Plans required under the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Make your voice heard!
·
The web-based
survey is open through March 29th, 2013.
Your feedback is important in helping the
state and local school systems to continue to improve education programs for
children with specialized needs.

The 11th FW Family Carnival - Fun for All!
The Annual Francis Wyman School Family Carnival was a fabulous success! Thank you to Cathy Perry and Joanie Tremblay for all their hard work in chairing this important event. Thank you also to all the Chairs of the various components of the Carnival. The snowstorm on Friday kept everyone on their toes as we scrambled to make plans to ensure that the Carnival could go on as planned. It was a true testimony to the dedication of all involved. Thank you to the over 130 parent, teachers, and high school students who volunteered their time and efforts to make this run so smoothly.
If you enjoyed this event, please look into volunteering next year. Many of our current leaders of the program have children in grades 4 and 5. We are looking for Kindergarten and Grade 1 parents to come on board and keep the Carnival moving into the future! If you are interested in getting involved, please go to the PTO website Francis Wyman PTO and send us an email.

Read Across America Day
Thank you to all our celebrity readers for joining Francis Wyman students on Dr. Seuss - Read Across America Day! We appreciate you giving the students your time and attention. By reading to our students, you are supporting their reading development and modeling a life-long love of reading.
School Committee member Mrs. Kristen Russo read to grade two students. She encouraged students to read for enjoyment.
DPW Mr. John Sanchez read to our grade four class and answered many excellent questions from the students. The students were learning about measurement and enjoyed hearing about the gallons of water Burlington uses on a daily basis.
Selectman Runyan read Green Eggs and Ham to grade two students. The students enjoyed hearing about being both a fire fighter and a selectman.
Senator Donnelly read Sneetches to grade 3 students. He encouraged them to run for Student Council as a way to become involved. It could lead to a life of public service!
Representative Gordon read his favorite Dr. Seuss book The Lorax to grade 5 students. He too encouraged students to become involved through the Student Council.

School Connect: a New Way for Families to Get Updates from the Burlington Public Schools
We are excited to add the School Connect app as a new way for Burlington families and staff to get updates from Burlington Public Schools! The School Connect App is now live and it will allow users to get updates on school closings and other important news sent directly to their smart devices. This service can be accessed through an app on the Apple or Android market or on the school connect website.
In addition, there is a web-based service that also allows for users to get the same information. As we move forward, this will also allow individual schools, individual teachers, and clubs and activities to send out updates to interested parties.
