Weekly Bulletin - March 29, 2018

Dates to Remember
March 30 - No School, Good Friday
Enjoy the long holiday weekend!
April 2 - Book Bingo 2:20 - 3:30pm for Grades K,1,2
April 4 and 5 - MCAS ELA, Grades 3,4,5**
April 9 - Book Bingo 2:20 - 3:30pm for Grades 3,4,5
April 16 - 20 - Spring Vacation Week, no school

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students will be taking the ELA MCAS exam this upcoming week. Here are a few reminders for parents and students to ensure the best possible testing environment:

1. Help your child to relax; children need to feel confident and comfortable to perform well.

2. Be sure your child gets a good night’s rest and has a healthy breakfast.

3. Children should arrive at school on time so as not to miss important instructions or rush into the testing setting.

4. Be sure your child is present for the testing. Makeup tests are available, but we feel children perform better if the test is taken with their own class as scheduled.

It's Maple Sugaring Season!

The students in Miss Farmer's and Mrs. Maiorano's
1st-grade classes joined Miss P. from the science center in tapping our maple trees in search of some sap.  Students
learned about the tree's layers and then helped to drill into
the bark with the hope of capturing some of the sweet maple sap buried within.  Happy Spring!

This week, many Francis Wyman students made paper cranes to support a BHS student who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.  As a school community, we are happy to be able to show our support.  Congrats to Aswad V. in grade 5 who made 31 cranes in one night!

Grade 1 Nursery Rhyme Concert Fun

All Francis Wyman Grade 1 students sang their hearts out in this week's Nursery Rhyme performance!  Students eagerly recited and sang nursery rhymes while even getting the audience involved moving and grooving to the silly lyrics.  They put on an amazing show and great fun was had by all.  Thanks to our 1st-grade teachers and music instructors for their collaborative efforts!

                           SOAR Incentive Day...
Congratulations to all students for earning their 3rd schoolwide SOAR incentive for consistently demonstrating
Acts of Kindness.  Today students got to choose between playing board games in the library or playing volleyball
or knockout in the gym.  Both students and teachers were highly invested in their choices and students demonstrated
great teamwork, cooperation, and good sportsmanship throughout the day.  Great job Francis Wyman!

Francis Wyman Carnival a Huge Success!
I would like to extend my sincerest THANK YOU to the PTO Carnival planning committee, the extensive network of parent volunteers and supporters, the generous community businesses, the FW staff members, and of course all our families who supported this extravagant event!  The cotton candy smiles, balloon hats, raffle & game prize winners, and proud cake baking participants were all a testament to our fun-filled, successful family carnival.
It is truly a privilege to be a part of this wonderful Francis Wyman community!

Welcome Harlem Superstars

Two players from the Harlem Superstars joined us at Francis Wyman this morning to show off their basketball talents and take the opportunity to recruit future superstars with 5th-grade students John & Alyssa.  They shared an entertaining performance while spreading the serious message of how important it is for students to stay in school and take advantage of every opportunity to learn and be the best students they can be.  Thank you to the BHS DECA students for helping to coordinate this event.
