Sharing Family Artifacts
Upon the invitation of Mrs. Ski & Mrs. Leary's 1st grade class, Mrs. McDonald shared her personal artifact called a "dream jar" with these students.  The class then drew a picture and wrote a museum caption to describe the artifact and its importance.  These students are learning about their own family's heritage and preparing to share a personal artifact with their class.  I can't wait to see the finished artifact journals that each student is creating!

Francis Wyman students continue to "SOAR" as they work to earn coupons for continuously demonstrating Outstanding Effort.  These coupons are randomly selected across all grade levels and students are given the opportunity to spin the "Wheel of Wyman" to uncover the school wide prize waiting to be revealed on our puzzle.  This is what has been uncovered so far ~ any guesses?
Building our Enrichment Opportunities
Enrichment math activities

Students have many opportunities both during the day and after school to participate in extension and enrichment activities.  Students practice math and critical thinking skills on their iPads, dress warmly to participate in the ski club on Tuesday afternoons, get assistance with their homework in the FW Homework Club, and can also join the Service Learning Club, Friendship Club, or Math Olympiad.  There are always numerous opportunities for students at FW to further develop their talents and interests!

Weekly Reminder 1/9/17

Upcoming Dates to Remember

January 11- Kindergarten Information Night @ BHS 7:00pm
January 16 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day, No School
February 6 and 7 - FW Kindergarten Registration

Lock down practice drill - Today at Francis Wyman, in conjunction with the Burlington Police Department, we practiced a lock down drill which helps students and staff prepare for an emergency within our school.  Teachers reviewed these procedures with all students and reinforced the message that our number 1 priority is to help kids be safe at school.  This drill took place at approximately 9:20 am and lasted 15 minutes.  Teachers and local police officers were available to support students and answer any questions they might have.  My goal is to make you aware of the importance of this drill and to help reinforce to your children that our job is to help them feel safe and protected here at school.  If you have any questions or need more information, please do not hesitate to call the school.

Francis Wyman community celebrates "Acts of Kindness"
                             at our last SOARS Assembly...
Soar Squad performs a skit to teach students KINDNESS!
All students helped to create an "Act of Kindness"  chain.
This was a reminder to all students that one small act of
kindness can start a chain reaction!
Students from all grade levels participated in a relay
to create Teacher Snowmen.

The final "snowmen" up on their platform to receive
their students' recognition!

Our students and teachers are amazing and I am so proud of
the acts of kindness that are displayed every day here at FW!
